The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 1999, Yves Rocher released Telethon 99 Pomme as a limited perfume in a collector's bottle, part of a broader Telethon collection that included other entries such as Telethon 94, 95, 96, 2000, 2001, and 2002. The collection as a whole took varied approaches from year to year, and the 1999 edition was built around a single fruit note: Pomme, the French word for apple. That straightforward choice gave the composition a clean center of gravity, letting the materials speak without any narrative scaffolding behind them. Bottles were produced in limited quantities, and the line was eventually discontinued, which has turned surviving examples into something sought after by collectors who follow the house's lesser-known releases.
What makes Telethon 99 Pomme interesting isn't the apple itself, but what holds it up. The composition leans on Iso E Super, that woody-velvety synthetic molecule that became a perfumer's darling in the late 1990s, to give a straightforward fruit note a woody, almost mineral undertone. Green Notes add the crisp, just-picked snap, while Tonka Bean in the base lends a faint almond sweetness without tipping into gourmand territory. Musk rounds everything into a powdery haze.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to the apple. Not a baked apple or a jammy one, but a cold, green one, the kind you might pick from a tree in late September. Green Notes add the snap of leaves and stem, so the opening feels like orchard air rather than fruit salad. There's a faint, almost herbal sharpness that some will read as cucumber, others as raw green stems. Around the twenty-minute mark, Iso E Super begins to assert itself. The fruit softens, and a velvety, woody-creamy texture wraps around the apple, pulling it closer to the skin. By the one-hour point, the composition has settled into something quieter and more powdery. Tonka Bean's faint almond warmth shows up in the background, but it never announces itself, and the musk takes over as the dominant force.
Cultural impact
Telethon 99 Pomme sits within the Telethon collection, a line that includes entries from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s. The 1999 edition, with its apple theme, was one of the more legible offerings in the series, a single-note concept that didn't require any prior knowledge of perfumery to appreciate. Its fruit-forward profile gave it a friendly, easy-to-wear character, and the limited production run meant that bottles were never going to be everywhere, which lent the release a quiet rarity.
