The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Viktor&Rolf introduced the Twist concept as a layering system, three 20ml perfume oils designed to amplify specific facets of the original Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum. Rose, Jasmine, and Musk. Each oil is a precision instrument, not a diluted flanker. Jasmine Twist arrived in 2017 as the luminous counterpoint to the warm, ambery heart of the flagship. The concept emerged from Viktor&Rolf's belief that fragrance names should evoke scent itself, and that jasmine, named after the flower, needed no translation. The oil format allows wearers to dial the jasmine note up or down depending on how much Flowerbomb EDP they layer underneath, making it genuinely interactive rather than a fixed composition. This isn't a standalone fragrance. It's a key that unlocks something already in your collection.
What makes Jasmine Twist distinctive isn't just the singular focus, it's the animalic undercurrent that keeps the jasmine from reading as purely decorative. White florals can tip into indolic territory, and jasmine at full strength carries that gravitational pull toward the nocturnal, the sweaty, the human. Viktor&Rolf didn't fight this. The Twist concept preserves it. The result is a jasmine that smells like a jasmine, not a jasmine abstraction, creamy petals and warm stamens, the full biological reality of the flower, amplified until it fills the space differently than the blended EDP ever could.
The evolution
Applied alone, Jasmine Twist opens bright and transparent, the jasmine reads as a high-frequency note, clean and sparkling rather than heavy. Within minutes, the animalic warmth arrives, and the scent shifts from something that smells like jasmine perfume to something that smells like jasmine flowers. The drydown is intimate, close to the skin, with a creamy white floral persistence that lingers past the point where you'd expect it to fade. On fabric, it settles quietly without staining or clashing. On skin, the projection is moderate, present in the room if someone leans in, invisible from across a table. The longevity is respectable for a fragrance oil, with the jasmine gradually softening into something closer to the musk base of the original Flowerbomb than to any sharp floral top.
Cultural impact
The Twist concept represents a departure from the typical flanker strategy, instead of reformulating the original, Viktor&Rolf created a modular system that lets wearers customize their experience. Jasmine Twist is the choice for those who want the Flowerbomb identity without the warm amber sweetness dominating the composition. It's a niche move within a mass-market framework, appealing to people who already love the house but want more control over their scent.
