Why it exists.
The beginning
Till Death arrived in 2024 as part of the Alchemist's Exclusives line, the same series that houses Vampire Kisses and Season of the Witch. Dark, musky, floral, warm. The scent carries a tension between sweetness and the grave that shapes the whole composition from the first spray to the last breath of drydown. A vegan-friendly Eau de Parfum, handcrafted in The Alchemists' lair. The naming does most of the storytelling. The scent has to hold up the other half. There is a sweetness at the front that almost tricks you into thinking this is something lighter, something easier, before the darker notes pull the floor out from under it.
What makes Till Death structurally interesting is the way the opening refuses to behave like a dark fragrance. Plum and freesia give it a sweet, almost bridal brightness that feels almost naive. The trick is what the heart does with it. The iris and patchouli settle into that sweetness and drag it downward, through amber and cashmere wood, into something far less innocent by the time the drydown arrives. Cistus and tonka then seal the composition with a resinous, warm, slightly sweet finish that clings to skin.
The evolution
Till Death opens with a slash of black plum that reads almost bruised, lifted by a green flicker of freesia. The heart settles into iris and patchouli, dusty and plush, while amber rounds the edges and cashmere wood wraps the composition in something close to a cashmere throw. The drydown is where the title earns its keep: cistus, tonka, and vanilla fuse into a resinous, skin-like hum with above-average longevity, sweetened but never candy-like. Over the first thirty minutes, the freesia fades and the plum deepens, taking on a darker, almost jammy quality as the iris begins to bloom underneath. By the second hour, the patchouli has settled into a quiet hum beneath the florals, and the amber starts to push forward, wrapping around the woods with a golden warmth.
