The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sheer Beauty arrived in 2012 as a younger sibling to Calvin Klein's 2010 Beauty. Carlos Benaïm built it in three movements: a Bellini-Bergamot-Red Berries opening, a Peony-Jasmine-Pink Lily heart, and a Musk-Sandalwood-Vanille base. The name says it all, something less structured, less precious, more about ease than ceremony. It was designed for women who wanted naturalness, self-confidence, and charm without the weight of something more complex. No manifesto. Just a clean scent that doesn't ask for attention.
The Bellini accord is the most interesting technical choice here, it's a specific flavor compound that catches the senses in a distinctive way. Combined with red berries, it gives the opening a slight effervescence, like something catching light at a summer gathering. The bergamot adds a citrusy brightness that lifts the fruity notes without overwhelming them. What makes the heart unusual is the pink lily, it bridges the gap between the fruity opening and the warm base without either side winning. The floral heart feels balanced and intentional, neither too sweet nor too green.
The evolution
The Bellini-Bergamot-Red Berries opening announces itself quickly, a bright citrus-fruit accord that shifts as the florals arrive. Peony, jasmine, and pink lily take over as the dominant character, this is what most people smell and remember. The white florals begin to recede as the warmer notes start to emerge. What's left is the musk, clean and close, blending with sandalwood and vanilla into a warmth that can outlast the florals by several hours. The drydown stays near the skin rather than projecting outward. This is a fragrance that stays close to you rather than announcing itself across a room.
Cultural impact
Sheer Beauty arrived in 2012 as a flanker to Calvin Klein's Beauty, bringing a youthful sensibility to the brand's fragrance lineup. The fruity-floral profile with Bellini, Bergamot, and Red Berries captured an approachable femininity that felt fresh and modern. Its clean character aligned with Calvin Klein's broader minimalist branding, presenting a scent that felt contemporary and accessible rather than formal or precious.
