The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Body Shop built its fragrance identity around something quieter than convention, ethical principles as a creative compass since White Musk in 1981. This Strawberry Perfume Oil arrives styled as a revival of the iconic Dewberry scent, carrying that same fruity-floral character into a format built for daily wear. The brand's community trade sourcing means the strawberry at the center isn't a synthetic approximation, it's the real thing, pressed from seeds in Ghana and Kenya, traceability back to the farm rather than the lab. Oil format. Cruelty-free. A scent story that begins in a field, not a focus group.
A perfume oil behaves differently from an alcohol spray. Warmer from the start, more intimate on skin. The longevity shifts the whole experience. There's something interesting in how strawberry repeats across the pyramid, top, heart, and base, which isn't the usual structure but makes the strawberry feel like a throughline rather than just an opening. Three strawberry moments. One continuous thread. The oil base slows everything down, letting each phase arrive more gradually and leave more quietly. What could have been a one-note fruit burst becomes something that stays.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and tart, strawberry, red currant, a flash of red apple. Immediate. Like biting into something just picked. There's no synthetic edge here, no candy gloss. It's the real thing, if only briefly. Around the 20-minute mark, the character shifts. Vanilla softens the sharpness, and florals round out the heart into something powdery. The fruit doesn't disappear, it gentles, becomes a warmth underneath rather than the main event. The drydown is where it gets personal. Vanilla and peach lean into each other, musked at the edges, warm and close. The strawberry never fully leaves, it just becomes quieter, more intimate, the thing that remains when everything else has settled. Lasts well into an evening.
Cultural impact
This fragrance occupies a particular space, accessible and vegan within a cruelty-free lineup, approachable where other releases push boundaries. The straightforward sweetness reads as simplicity rather than shallowness, which is its own kind of confidence. Worn by the person who wants a scent to smell like strawberries without apology or performance.
