The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Glowing Cherry Blossom arrived in 2022 as part of The Body Shop's Choice Fragrance Collection, a line built around vegan formulation. The composition is built on a single, deliberate idea: what does a cherry blossom actually smell like once you stop imagining it as pretty and start treating it like a material? The brand's perfumers answered with Japanese cherry blossom at the top, osmanthus at the heart, and creamy sandalwood underneath. Three notes, no filler, no excess. That philosophy shaped the restraint here. This is not a fragrance trying to do everything. It knows exactly what it is. The opening hits with the unmistakable softness of cherry blossom, that delicate white-floral whisper that reads more petal than perfume.
The pairing of Japanese cherry blossom and osmanthus is doing most of the heavy lifting. Cherry blossom alone reads thin and soapy, almost like clean laundry pretending to be a flower. Osmanthus fixes that. It carries a natural apricot-and-honey sweetness that thickens the air around the blossom, giving it a bruised-fruit dimension that feels honest rather than synthetic. The sandalwood base doesn't compete. It just adds a creamy, slightly nutty warmth that keeps the sweetness from tipping into candy. For a three-note composition, the architecture is doing more work than it appears.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all cherry blossom and alcohol lift, almost too sharp, like a window opened to spring air. The osmanthus arrives quietly, not announcing itself, more like a memory of stone fruit that surfaces between the petals. By the 30-minute mark, the composition has settled into a soft floral-fruity haze, warm and slightly creamy, with the sandalwood starting to ground the sweetness. The drydown is where this earns its keep. Two hours in, the cherry blossom is mostly gone, but the osmanthus-sandalwood pairing lingers on skin like warm rice milk with a drop of honey. It stays close to the body rather than projecting. On fabric, the sandalwood outlasts everything, still faintly present the next morning.
Cultural impact
Glowing Cherry Blossom sits in an interesting space as a daytime floral, the kind of soft, wearable scent that works under a coat on a commute rather than commanding a room. It is a fragrance aimed at someone who wants softness without sweetness overload, a gentle wash of blossom and fruit that reads approachable and unfussy. The osmanthus note gives it enough complexity to stay interesting beyond the first hour, while the sandalwood base keeps the whole composition from drifting into something too girlish or one-dimensional.
