The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
It's Now or Never is part of Collection 1 from Smell Frankly, and the name does exactly what it suggests. No mythology, no invented poet. Just the quiet urgency of a summer window before the calendar catches up. The official copy places you on a specific morning: sunlight cutting through early mist. That's not abstract green. It's grass, bergamot, and pear as a single sensory event, the kind of morning you remember for how it felt on your skin. The opening reads as a snapshot rather than a moodboard, which gives the composition its grounding. There's nothing performative in how it's been built. Just a handful of notes arranged to recreate the first hour of a warm day, the part when everything is still wet and the light hasn't fully committed. That specificity is what sells it.
What makes this composition interesting isn't any single material. It's the way coconut milk shows up in a green, grassy structure and doesn't apologize for itself. Here it's tucked into the heart, softening the iris and sweetening the fig into something that holds its shape. The fig does similar work, bringing a vegetal sweetness that reads as fruit rather than jam, and the coconut milk wraps around it without ever feeling beachy. The sandalwood in the base keeps everything grounded, giving the green opening somewhere to land instead of just evaporating.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are all grass and bergamot, sharp and slightly bitter, with pear giving it a crisp sweetness that reads almost effervescent. The green has a real bite at the top, the kind that prickles the inside of your nose before settling into something rounder. Then the green pulls back and the coconut milk arrives, which sounds like it shouldn't work here but does. It adds a creaminess that makes the iris feel powdery rather than soapy, and the composition briefly takes on a milky, almost lactonic texture. Fig joins next, and for a moment the whole thing smells like a fruit stand at the edge of a garden, that sweet-green intersection you only get when ripe fruit sits next to cut grass. By the two-hour mark the top and heart have largely faded, and what remains is moss, sandalwood, and tonka bean. The drydown is where this fragrance settles into its real personality.
Cultural impact
It's Now or Never fits comfortably within the current wave of green, fresh fragrances that lean on coconut and fig rather than the more traditional aquatic or citrus-dominant structures. The composition reads as accessible, wearable, and unconcerned with performative complexity. Early community response has been warm, with reviewers noting the clean execution and the unexpected placement of coconut milk in a green composition. The fragrance doesn't try to reinvent the category, but it does handle a familiar note combination with enough care to feel considered rather than formulaic.
