The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Skylar built its identity around the idea that fragrance should not cost you comfort, in the form of irritation, sensitivity, or compromise. Winter Spirit extends that mission into the colder months. Where summer Skylars read as sunlit and breezy, this 2022 release turns inward. The name is the concept: not the ski lodge exterior, but the hour afterward, skin still flushed, something sweet and warm in hand. The brand found its customer asking for depth, and Winter Spirit is the answer.
What makes this composition work is restraint in all the right places. The rum does not barrel in like a shot glass, it arrives in the heart, softened by oak wood, lending warmth without aggression. Violet bridges the gap between the fruity almond opening and the vanilla base, preventing the composition from reading as pure dessert. Amber and sandalwood in the base ensure the drydown does not simply vanish but stays close, intimate, and present for hours.
The evolution
The bergamot opens bright and citrussy for about fifteen minutes, brief, clean, then gone. Roasted almond takes over and brings the first real signal of what this fragrance is: warm, slightly sweet, with an edge of nuttiness that stays through the heart. Apricot nectar softens the whole thing into something rounder and more approachable. Then the handoff: oak wood and rum arrive together, and the composition shifts from cozy to something with a little more gravity. The violet keeps the florals present but quiet, never loud. The base is where Winter Spirit earns its name. Amber and sandalwood ground the composition while vanilla bean lingers, close to the skin, warm, the kind of smell that someone notices only when they get close enough to matter. Six to eight hours on most skin types, quieter sillage, intimate presence.
Cultural impact
Winter Spirit enters a fragrance landscape where warm, woody-gourmand scents have become the comfort food of perfume. What sets it apart is the clean fragrance angle, not just the notes, but the formulation philosophy. For someone who wants depth and complexity without the weight of traditional perfumery, this fills a gap. The rum and oak wood combination positions it as a quieter, more intimate alternative to heavier winter scents, suitable for everyday wear rather than special occasions alone.
