The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Simone Andreoli founded his Italian brand in 2014 with a diary-like philosophy, each fragrance capturing a specific place or emotional memory. Moorea arrived in 2016 as part of the Verses of Life collection, named for the Polynesian island famed for turquoise lagoons and white-sand beaches. Rather than translating the island's visual beauty, Andreoli bottled the feeling of standing at its shoreline with sea mist on your skin and warm floral air drifting from the interior. The result is a scent that reads as personal and intimate rather than aspirational.
Andreoli approaches fragrance composition with the same attention he gives to musical composition, treating each note as a phrase that must work in context with what came before. For Moorea, the citrus and aquatic top notes set a specific tempo, the warm florals introduce the melody, and the drydown resolves everything into a grounded, mineral-tinged chord. The note structure mirrors the island itself: bright and effervescent at the surface, deeply warm beneath, with something earthier waiting at the foundation. This is why the fragrance works as a complete thought rather than a collection of disconnected parts.
The evolution
The experience begins with a bright citrus and marine opening. Bergamot, Lime, Neroli, and Aquatic Notes collide to create a sparkling, salt-kissed freshness that feels genuinely coastal. Within minutes, the heart takes over. Ylang-Ylang and Frangipani bloom forward, warm and tropical, softened slightly by the green clarity of Violet Leaf and enriched by the subtle animalic depth of Narcissus. As the floral heart settles, the drydown arrives with Amber, Patchouli, and Vetiver, bringing a mineral earthiness that grounds the tropical brightness and leaves a warm, clean trail long after the initial spray.
Cultural impact
Since its 2016 debut, Moorea has sparked conversation in niche forums for its bold opening that divides opinion yet rewards patience with a marine‑floral drydown. Wearers often cite the scent as a reminder of tropical getaways, and its inclusion in the Verses of Life line positions it alongside other travel‑inspired diary entries that collectors seek for their narrative depth.
