The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
SG79|STHLM released Nº 4 in 2016, one of the earliest entries in the house's numbered collection. Rather than naming their fragrances, the Stockholm brand lets each composition speak without marketing language, you're not choosing a concept, you're choosing a sensation. Nº 4 arrived as part of a broader line that treats fragrance as abstract experience, numbered rather than narrated, understood rather than displayed.
What makes Nº 4 structurally interesting is how the spice and smoke flank the florals rather than competing with them. Clove and frankincense bracket a heart of magnolia, jasmine, and ylang-ylang, the florals don't soften the assertiveness, they occupy the same space as it. The result is a composition where warm and cool don't take turns; they coexist. Vetiver's earthiness keeps the vanilla and amber from becoming saccharine, a counterweight that earns its place in the heart.
The evolution
The opening announces itself without apology, clove's sharp spice, pink pepper's citrusy bite. Magnolia arrives within minutes, bringing cream and volume that the jasmine then deepens. The amber-vetiver heart takes over around the thirty-minute mark, warmer and more enveloping. By hour two, sandalwood and cedarwood ground everything while frankincense adds a smoky depth the vanilla sweetens just slightly. On fabric, the drydown carries six to eight hours, close enough to notice, never shouting.
Cultural impact
Nº 4 sits comfortably in the Stockholm minimalist tradition, warm without being heavy, smoky without being aggressive. The spicy-floral structure appeals to wearers who want assertiveness without volume. Moderate sillage means it reads as personal rather than announced, making it a quiet signal rather than a statement. The numbered system itself is the brand's statement: you choose a sensation, not a story.
