The beginning
Masculin Leather arrived in 2018, part of Riiffs Perfumes' expanding men's catalog. The name does exactly what it says. This is leather. Centered, unapologetic, dressed in just enough citrus and spice to keep it from feeling like a museum piece. The composition reads as a direct statement of intent, one where strength, sophistication, and a hint of rugged charm coexist without tipping into parody. There is no pretense here, no elaborate backstory wrapped around the bottle. What you get is a leather-forward scent that commits fully to its central material and surrounds it with accents sharp enough to give it shape and softness. The opening hits with grapefruit and cardamom, quick and bright, before apple rounds the edges into something more rounded.
What's worth noticing here is the structure beneath the leather. Grapefruit and cardamom handle the brightness, apple rounds out the opening with a subtle fruity lift, then the heart grounds everything in patchouli, sage, and Brazilian rosewood. That combination matters. Sage brings an herbal clarity that shifts the register away from purely earthy, and Brazilian rosewood adds a creamy, almost nutty warmth before the base even arrives. The leather, suede, tonka bean, amberwood, and birch finish is layered rather than stacked. Birch gives the smoke. Tonka adds sweetness.
The evolution
