The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Raees joined the Aliza collection in 2024, and the name carries the weight of its Arabic meaning: a leader, someone who walks in and the room recalibrates. That's the brief the perfumers worked from, not a wallflower, not a peacocking entrance, but presence that doesn't need to ask permission. The composition splits the difference between East and West without diluting either. Citrus and leather. Sea air and oakmoss. Raees leans into a lighter, cleaner lane while keeping one hand on the earthy, grounded base notes that anchor the whole structure. The opening reads sharp and bright, almost electric, while the drydown pulls warmer and deeper, a contrast that keeps the fragrance interesting from the first spray to the last trace on skin hours later.
What makes the structure work is the contrast at its center. Grapefruit, lemon, and mandarin give you a sharp, almost bracing opening, the kind of citrus that reads cold and electric. Then the heart slides into white florals and pink pepper with marine notes threading through, which adds a mineral, almost wind-blasted quality. The bridge between them is where most citrus-forward fragrances falter. Raees doesn't, because the base is doing real work: oakmoss, patchouli, and leather.
The evolution
First ten minutes: pure citrus burst, leaning cold and bright. Grapefruit's bitterness up front, lemon's acidity, mandarin rounding it with sweetness. It reads sharp, almost bracing, like biting into the fruit itself. The opening doesn't whisper, it announces itself with the kind of clarity that makes you check you've actually sprayed it on. Twenty minutes in, the white florals arrive, soft and creamy, while pink pepper adds a dry, almost mineral heat. The marine notes lift the whole thing slightly, giving it lift without sweetness. This is the phase that surprises people. It doesn't smell like a typical cologne. It smells deliberate, layered, considered. The drydown takes over around the two-hour mark. Oakmoss arrives first, green and slightly bitter, then patchouli deepens it into something earthier.
Cultural impact
Raees arrives as a citrus-forward composition with a grounded base, an unusual combination that gives it crossover appeal. The white florals and marine notes keep the middle phase airy and current, while the oakmoss, patchouli, and leather base provide the kind of depth that signals serious perfumery rather than a casual freshie. It's a structure that reads well across different wearing contexts, from daytime professional settings to evening occasions where something a little more rooted tends to land better. The balance of bright citrus top notes against that earthy-mossy foundation also makes Raees versatile across seasons.
