The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Liz Intenso arrived in 2023 from Emilie Coppermann, the French perfumer who built her career translating raw botanical materials into compositions that feel both precise and lived-in. For O Boticário, she approached a Brazilian brief, fruits, florals, and woods, through a European lens, finding the tension between tropical abundance and Parisian restraint. The name "Intenso" suggested a direction: not louder, but deeper. A fragrance that builds rather than announces, that asks to be discovered rather than demanding attention.
What makes the structure interesting is how the powdery iris doesn't arrive late, it's woven into the heart alongside rose, jasmine, and lily of the valley, giving the middle a creaminess that never goes dusty. The Mousse de Saxe in the base is an unusual choice: a classic fixative that adds a mossy, slightly animalic warmth without tipping into darkness. Combined with cashmeran, a synthetic that mimics the softness of cashmere, the drydown reads as enveloping rather than heavy. This is a composition that understands restraint.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and fruity: red fruits and a hint of pear with mandarin and bergamot cutting through. Within fifteen minutes, the citrus fades and the floral heart moves forward, iris leading, rose following, jasmine and lily of the valley filling in the spaces between. The handoff from heart to base takes about two hours, and it's seamless. Sandalwood and amber arrive softly, never overwhelming the florals, while patchouli and Haitian vetiver ground everything with an earthy finish. The drydown holds for several hours after that: warm, woody, intimate. On fabric, it lingers into the next day.
Cultural impact
Liz Intenso arrives as O Boticário refines its position in the international market, moving beyond its Brazilian roots to compete with European and American luxury brands. The launch signals a strategic shift toward sophisticated, iris-forward compositions that appeal to consumers seeking nuanced alternatives to mainstream fragrances. Emilie Coppermann's approach pairs accessible fruity openings with complex powdery florals, reflecting a growing trend where commercial appeal meets artistic depth. The brand's distribution across Latin America and select global markets positions Liz Intenso as a bridge between accessible luxury and genuine olfactory craft.
