Why it exists.
The beginning
Chapter 04 translates a single line from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's memoir My Story into scent: "My father, the horses, and Dubai are my first memories of childhood, ones that will stay with me until the end." It sits as the fourth composition in a line that began with Chapter 01, each fragrance built not from a raw material or an olfactive family but from a chapter of one of the Gulf's most influential lives. The nose belongs to Nathalie Templer, who composed it as an extrait de parfum. The fragrance's specific charge is memory itself, the bond between a father, a desert landscape, and the early textures of Dubai, rendered as something you can spray on your skin and carry.
The opening built from bergamot, ginger, nutmeg, and mint, then hands the floor to a clean white floral heart of neroli, jasmine, lily of the valley, and geranium. That cool aromatic-to-floral bridge is what gives the fragrance its shape: the spicy opening reads as warmth, the floral heart as something cool and specific. The base doesn't pile on the usual Arabian perfumery markers either. Instead of reaching for heavy oud or dense amber resins, Chapter 04 pulls toward guaiac wood and ambergris, two materials that speak in lower registers, smoked and slightly saline rather than syrupy.
The evolution
The first moments are the brightest the fragrance will ever be. Bergamot cuts in cold, followed immediately by ginger's clean burn and mint's almost mentholated lift, with nutmeg threading underneath as a slow-building warmth. There is no softness in the opening, no compromise, and the whole accord feels built for impact rather than subtlety. The spices step back as the composition moves forward, and neroli arrives at the front of the blend, carrying a green-orange sharpness that cools the temperature down without dimming it. Jasmine and lily of the valley follow in a white-petaled wave that is genuinely pretty without ever tipping into sweetness, their indolic edge held just barely in check by the coolness of the neroli above and the greenness pressing in from the sides.
Cultural impact
Chapter 04 holds strong community approval, with ratings reflecting broad agreement on its clean, fresh-spicy character. It carries a notably different profile from much of what dominates the Gulf fragrance conversation: cold and bright in the opening where many regional releases lean dense and ambery from the first spray, then warm but never syrupy underneath. The composition makes room for a white-floral heart and a clean wood-and-musk base, materials more often associated with European or Mediterranean extrait traditions, and that cross-pollination gives it a distinct position within its category.
