The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Elixir d'Amour is the house's boldest study in contrasts, floral and spicy, green and warm, fruity and resinous. Perfumer Mark Buxton built this as a wearable composition that prioritizes depth over projection, intimacy over volume, creating something that speaks to the heart rather than impresses the room.
Parfums d'Elmar tasked Mark Buxton with creating something that would speak to the heart rather than impress the room. The result is a fragrance with a deliberately controlled sillage that opens with presence but settles into something quiet and personal on the skin, revealing its depth only to those nearby.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and green: bergamot and fig leaf create a crisp, almost tangible quality. Pink pepper and saffron add a spicy warmth that doesn't overwhelm. Within 30 minutes, Bulgarian rose takes over as the dominant note, supported by water jasmine and lily of the valley. Raspberry threads through, and guaiac wood begins to deepen the floral heart. Three hours in, the floral brightness fades as agarwood oud takes command. Amber, caramel, and vanilla create a warm, sweet base that lingers for hours. Musk, patchouli, amyris, and labdanum add depth and texture. By the end of the day, what remains is a warm, resinous, intimate whisper, the drydown of a fragrance that was never meant to announce itself. What makes this fragrance special is its balance of opposites: cool green and spicy top notes against a warm floral heart, grounded by a rich oud and caramel base that never becomes heavy. Métry crafted something that feels effortless despite its complexity.
Cultural impact
Swiss perfume house founded 2017 by former private banker Elmar Métry. The brand emphasizes restraint, small batches, sustainable sourcing, and oud-forward compositions that favor depth over projection. Métry's vision centered on depth over projection, intimacy over volume. Elixir d'Amour represents the house's philosophy of creating warm, sensual, intimate scents without heaviness.
