Why it exists.
The beginning
To Whom It May Concern is the opening letter of the M2 message collection from Parfum Büro, a niche house built around an unusual thesis: fragrance as communication. The concept treats scent the way the messenger smiley conveys emotional color, a shortcut that adds tone to a message before a word is read. Each scent in the M2 series takes that logic and turns it into a character: a mood, a social signal, a way of addressing someone without opening your mouth. This first release sketches one of those characters, a figure composed in 2021 by perfumer Maurizio Cerizza. The character stands still, listens first, and lets presence do the talking. You wear it, and something gets said.
The composition is lean. Five top notes (bergamot, grapefruit, orange, black pepper, lemon) stacked against two florals and two base materials. No dense layering, no cushioning. The pepper functions as a hinge between the citrus and the florals, giving the bright opening a slight edge without letting it go sharp. Jasmine and magnolia do the talking in the middle, but the architecture stays minimal. This is high-perfumery that respects the wearer's attention span.
The evolution
The opening belongs to citrus and pepper. Bergamot and grapefruit lead, the orange adds warmth underneath, and the black pepper keeps things from drifting into cologne territory. The citrus fades in its own time, though not quickly, and jasmine steps up with magnolia close behind. There's a clean, almost soapy quality here, but the florals carry a cool sweetness that stops it from going sterile. As the composition wears on, cedar has entered and the drydown settles into a warm amber-cedar close. The florals linger too, woven into the base rather than disappearing, holding presence in the background while the wood and amber take the foreground. On fabric hours later, the amber is what remains, a quiet signature that outlasts the louder opening.
