The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
L'Or de Say No. 2 arrived in 2015 as part of Orsay's feminine line, paired with No. 1 and presented in transparent flacons finished with satin ribbons at the neck. Both releases were created and announced as ideal for spring and summer, leaning into a fruitier, softer, more skin-level direction than its sibling. The lychee and apricot in the opening read almost candy-bright at first spray, while the rose and lily in the heart soften that sweetness into something more rounded and floral. As the hours pass, the cedar and sandalwood in the base settle in, giving the composition a creamy, slightly woody close that anchors the brighter top notes. On skin, the transition from juicy fruit to warm wood happens gradually, with the florals acting as a bridge between the two poles.
What makes No. 2 worth noticing is the tension between its fruit top and its woody base. Lychee and apricot are pitched high and sweet, almost confectionary. Cedar and sandalwood at the bottom pull the whole thing back down to earth. The rose and lily in the middle act as a bridge, soft enough to blur the edges between juicy opening and creamy close. The lychee carries a juicy, almost candied quality, while the apricot lends a softer, velvety sweetness that keeps the opening from feeling sharp.
The evolution
On skin, the lychee arrives almost immediately, bright and syrupy, with apricot threading through like a second voice a few seconds behind. The fruit holds for the first 20 minutes, maybe 30, and it's the loudest the fragrance ever gets. Then it pulls back. Rose and lily step in, but they're quiet about it, more texture than statement, and the cedar surfaces underneath, dry and clean, cutting through what sugar the fruit left behind. By the two-hour mark the composition has shifted firmly into its base: sandalwood softens everything, and the musk pulls the whole thing close to skin. It doesn't project much past that. On fabric the drydown lingers into the next morning, a faint warm-cream trace that's more felt than smelled. Total arc sits around 3-4 hours on skin, longer on clothes.
Cultural impact
Wearers tend to reach for L'Or de Say No. 2 as a soft daytime option, the kind of scent that works on a warm-weather commute or an afternoon that doesn't ask for performance. Its quiet profile makes it a frequent pick for people who want something pleasant on themselves rather than a scent designed to fill a room. The lychee-apricot opening gives it a friendly, approachable first impression, while the cedar and sandalwood base keeps it from feeling overly sweet or juvenile as it wears down. Many describe it as a composition that stays close to the skin, projecting softly for the first hour or two before settling into a creamy, woody whisper.
