The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Hernan Fígoli, Marion Costero, and Leandro Petit created Quasar Drop XX in 2019. The name says it all, Quasar refers to something vast and luminous, dropped into an XX iteration, meaning this is the refined version. Whatever the first Quasar was trying to say, this says it better. Three perfumers means three perspectives on what fresh should feel like, and the result doesn't try to do everything at once. It knows what it is.
What makes this work is the aldehydes. They give the opening that shimmering, almost effervescent quality, not soapy, not powdery, just elevated. Most mass-market fresh fragrances skip this step because it's expensive and subtle. Quasar Drop XX doesn't skip it. Then there's cashmeran in the base, a synthetic note that behaves like a soft, warm fabric against skin. It bridges the cool opening and the warmer drydown in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental. Fresh enough for daily wear, composed enough to feel like someone thought about it.
The evolution
The opening hits like menthol, sharp, almost pharmaceutical for thirty seconds. Then bergamot arrives, followed quickly by apple and those aldehydes that shimmer like something effervescent. Cardamom sits underneath, a green spice that reminds you this isn't just a citrus cologne. By five minutes in, the geranium and lavender arrive. That's the turning point. The freshness doesn't disappear, it becomes something else, more aromatic, slightly medicinal in the best way. Galbanum keeps it grounded with that green bite, while nutmeg adds warmth and powder in equal measure. This phase lasts a few hours, and it's the most interesting part of the evolution. Around hour three, musk and cedar take over. The cashmeran softens everything, it behaves like cashmere would against skin, wrapping the woody drydown in something cozy. Amber lingers quietly underneath. The sillage becomes intimate. On clothes, it lasts until the next day.
Cultural impact
Part of O Boticário's broader Quasar line, Quasar Drop XX sits comfortably within the brand's accessible pricing while offering enough complexity to reward attention. The aldehydes set it apart from straightforward fresh fragrances, giving it a quiet sophistication that works across occasions. It's the kind of scent that doesn't try to compete with European luxury, it simply does its own thing well.
