The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nishane launched Vjola in 2014 with perfumer Jorge Lee. The name, drawn from the Albanian word for violet, signals exactly what this fragrance is: an unapologetic white floral built around one of perfumery's most beloved notes. Where many florals use violet as a fleeting top, Vjola places it at the center. The brief was simple and ambitious: make violet the main event, not the supporting act.
The pyramid structure is unusual. Violet typically appears and fades within the first hour. Here, it persists through the heart, supported by immortelle's honeyed warmth rather than drowned out by heavier woods or musks. Marigold adds a green, almost herbal counterpoint that keeps the sweetness from becoming syrupy. The combination of heliotrope and vanilla in the base creates a powdery warmth that extends the violet's presence rather than replacing it. It's a composition that trusts its central ingredient to do the heavy lifting.
The evolution
The opening announces violet and marigold together, the marigold lending a surprising green-herbal edge that keeps the sweetness honest. Within the first hour, tuberose arrives, adding richness and a slightly narcotic warmth that complements the cool violet. This is the heart's defining move: jasmine and rose emerge, but the violet never fully retreats. It holds on, finding a new role alongside the iris that arrives in the second hour. The iris brings powdery sophistication, shifting the character from heady floral to something more refined. The drydown arrives around hour four, when honeysuckle and immortelle finally assert themselves. The vanilla and heliotrope create a soft, warm finish that lingers. What surprises most wearers: the violet is still there. Faint, but present. It refuses to leave.
Cultural impact
Among violet enthusiasts, Vjola has become a quiet reference point. It demonstrates that powdery florals can command attention without relying on the typical structural tricks. The fragrance earned its following through longevity and a distinctive violet-forward character that distinguishes it from the pack.
