The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vague d'Or arrived as the latest chapter in Nikos's Sculpture lineage, a house that has built its identity on fragrances that resist easy categorization. Karine Vinchon-Spehner, working with Robertet, approached Vague d'Or with intention and care. The name, 'golden wave' in French, suggests something slower. Something that settles. It carries a warmth that unfolds gradually rather than announcing itself, inviting the wearer into a quiet, intimate space that feels both intimate and expansive at once.
What makes Vague d'Or unusual is the way it handles its sweet notes. The cacao doesn't arrive as chocolate, it reads more like dust, a fine powder that rises from the drydown rather than announcing itself at the opening. Paired with iris and orange blossom, this creates a composition that sits between floral and gourmand without belonging to either. The cardamom and cinnamon in the top are present but restrained, they warm the opening rather than overwhelm it. This is not a spiced fragrance. It is a warm one.
The evolution
The opening is bright and slightly tart, bergamot and cherry arrive together, with almond providing a soft kernel underneath. The cinnamon and cardamom are there but quiet, warming the edges without asserting themselves. Within twenty minutes, the powdery notes begin to rise: iris and orange blossom take over the foreground, creating a soft floral haze that reads as both vintage and contemporary. The cherry retreats but doesn't disappear, it becomes a sweetness in the background, threading through the heart. By the second hour, the drydown announces itself: cacao dust, vanilla warmth, patchouli grounding everything. The musk stays close to the skin, creating a quiet sillage that others will notice only when they're near.
Cultural impact
Vague d'Or appeals to those who seek something distinct from mainstream releases, a fragrance that earns attention through character rather than volume. Its composition blends warm amber and vanilla with powdery iris and delicate floral notes, creating a scent profile that feels both familiar and uniquely its own. The fragrance carries a presence that others will notice only when they're close, an intimate signature that speaks to its wearer's appreciation for subtlety and depth over obvious impact.
