The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Paladin is Frederic Gieselbach's release for Nebiru Parfvms, arriving in 2026 as part of the Linea Priveé collection. The name does the heavy lifting. A paladin is a sworn protector, a figure bound to a code before a crown. That sensibility runs through the entire structure. Gieselbach built the composition around a single governing idea: clarity without austerity. Green citrus at the front, tea at the spine, dry woods beneath it all. Nothing decorative. Nothing wasted. The opening snaps to attention immediately, with lemongrass leading into bergamot's rounder brightness, before the tea settles in with its dry, leafy bitterness. Each element hands off to the next without overlap or redundancy.
What's notable here is the material selection. Chinese green tea absolute sits at the composition's core, treated as a structural element. Pairing it with Somali frankincense absolute and two distinct sandalwoods, Australian and Indian, gives the base a density that anchors the composition from below. The Madagascan patchouli and French lavender aren't decorative either. They carry weight, binding the aromatic accords together and giving the composition its quiet gravity. The structure reads as entirely modern, with each note calibrated to support the next.
The evolution
The opening belongs to lemongrass. It's sharp, almost raw, undercut by bergamot's quieter brightness. Green tea absolute arrives within minutes, adding a dry, leafy bitterness that makes the opening feel less like a citrus fragrance and more like a discipline. The accord is bracing, slightly astringent, built to wake you up rather than comfort you. As the hours pass, the tea deepens gradually. Copaiba wood and frankincense emerge from beneath the surface, and the composition starts to settle. Cardamom adds warmth without sweetness, bringing a spiced, almost nutty quality to the center. Geranium lends a faint rosiness that keeps the whole thing from tipping into pure herbal austerity. This is the quiet middle phase, the part most people will associate with Paladin on skin: complex but unhurried, aromatic in the truest sense of the word.
Cultural impact
Paladin arrived in 2026 within the Linea Priveé collection. The fragrance offers something unexpected in a landscape saturated with sweetness and smoke: a green-tea composition built on restraint rather than excess. Every ingredient pulls its weight, every note earns its place, and the whole thing refuses to bend toward easy warmth. The structure is disciplined without being cold. Green tea absolute anchors the heart of the composition, flanked by cardamom warmth, geranium's faint rosiness, and the resinous depth of frankincense. Above it sits the green citrus opening of lemongrass and bergamot, bracing and clear.
