The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bois D' Iris arrived in 2021 from My Perfumes Select, a UAE-based fragrance house that presents itself as a contemporary voice within the region's long perfume tradition. Olaf Larsen composed the scent around an unusual tension: the cool, powdered elegance of iris placed beside the rounded sweetness of caramel and the pointed heat of saffron. The name points toward wood and iris, but the composition is deliberately richer than either word alone. Jasmine, orchid, and orris root bring floral structure, while patchouli, sandalwood, moss, ambergris, musk, and tonka bean give it a deep, grounded finish.
The striking part is the collision. Iris usually signals polish, restraint, and a cool talc-like finish. Here, it shares space with caramel, orange, ginger, saffron, and marigold, so the powdery floral accord arrives wrapped in sweetness and spice. That contrast makes the composition feel opulent without becoming one-note. Jasmine and orchid keep the heart floral, orris root adds an earthy dimension, and the woody base prevents the gourmand elements from turning purely dessert-like.
The evolution
The first impression is bright and spiced, with orange bringing a clean edge, ginger adding clean heat, and saffron lending a metallic golden warmth. Caramel and marigold move underneath, softening that brightness without losing its energy. As the opening gives way, jasmine, orchid, iris, and orris root gather into a fuller floral heart. The powdery iris effect becomes clearer here, but never detached from the composition's warmth. During the drydown, patchouli and moss bring earth, while sandalwood smooths the edges. Ambergris, musk, and tonka bean leave a soft, sweet-woody trail. The final impression is the lingering one: polished above, earthy underneath, and still recognizably sweet, with a loyal following among admirers of warm iris compositions.
Cultural impact
Bois D' Iris fits My Perfumes Select's self-expression focus and its presentation of fragrance as personal indulgence rather than quiet conformity. Its appeal lies in a confident blend of familiar luxury signals: iris, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, and musk, complicated by caramel and saffron. The result suits wearers drawn to polished Middle Eastern perfumery with a contemporary, gender-fluid point of view.
