The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The XX line launched in 2008 with two flankers, XX Nice and XX Wild, both presented by top model Mandy Bork. The following year, Mexx doubled down with two more expressions: Very Nice and Very Wild. The naming convention was deliberate, a continuation of the series rather than a reinvention. Very Wild came in a purple bottle that caught the light nicely. No grand concept, no far-flung inspiration. Just a fruity-floral that wanted to be noticed. The scent itself delivered on that promise, opening with bright citrus and blackcurrant that commanded attention before softening into marshmallow sweetness.
The heart of XX Very Wild centers on marshmallow, which distinguishes it from typical fruity-floral compositions. Paired with orange blossom and vanilla, the overall effect leans creamy and warm rather than green or aquatic. Blackcurrant and mandarin provide an initial tartness that quickly gentles as the marshmallow emerges, rounding the fragrance into something softer and warmer. Sandalwood and amber in the base keep the drydown from becoming too sweet, adding depth so the scent doesn't vanish after an hour.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, citrus and blackcurrant making their presence known within seconds. Within fifteen minutes, marshmallow takes over, pushing the composition into soft, almost powdery territory. Orange blossom appears briefly as a fleeting floral sweetness before vanilla dominates the heart. The base is where XX Very Wild earns its staying power: sandalwood and amber create a warm, close-to-skin finish that lingers comfortably. On fabric, the vanilla and sandalwood remain detectable, leaving a faint sweetness that persists. The progression moves smoothly from bright opening through creamy heart to a warm finish that doesn't disappear too quickly.
Cultural impact
The XX series featured Mandy Bork as its face, connecting the scent to Germany's Next Topmodel. The Very Wild variant, with its purple bottle and playful positioning, sat alongside Very Nice as the more energetic counterpart in the lineup. Younger wearers gravitated toward the fragrance, appreciating its sweetness and accessibility. Many discovered it as a blind purchase, finding the overall impression appealing and easy to wear. The practical wearability made it suitable for daily use rather than reserved for special occasions.
