The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eximus is the scent Memoize London released in 2022, and the word itself says what the fragrance wants to be: the exception, the one that went further. The name carries the scent's intention plainly, a quiet boast that doesn't need volume to land. Memoize releases each fragrance with a narrative prompt, and Eximus arrives with exactly that: the memory of a best achievement, of dedication that paid off, of a proud moment that doesn't fade. The fragrance translates that feeling into something olfactory, the smell of having gone the extra mile, the quiet after the win. On skin, Eximus opens with a measured warmth, a soft dusting of spice and resin that feels more like recognition than announcement.
The interesting move in Eximus is the restraint on the oud. Agarwood appears in the base, but it shares space with vanilla, patchouli, and musk, so it never dominates the way oud tends to in oriental compositions. Instead, it reads as a structural element, darkening the wood, adding depth to the sandalwood, lending the rose a shadow it wouldn't otherwise have. Turkish rose is the heart's anchor, dense and slightly honeyed, and it's set against magnolia's cooler creaminess, which keeps the accord from collapsing into pure sweetness. Clove and saffron form a spice spine that runs from opening to drydown, the kind of warmth that feels lit from inside rather than added on top.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to the saffron. It opens bright, slightly metallic, almost copper-edged, with pear blossom threading through to keep it from feeling like a spice cabinet. It's a bright, dry heat, the kind that registers before it settles. The saffron doesn't disappear; it just makes room. Around the 20-minute mark, clove and sandalwood take over. The Turkish rose blooms into the space, adding a honeyed density that magnolia cools from the edges. This is the most textured phase: warm, slightly powdery, the wood reading more like polished furniture than forest. The saffron still glows underneath, giving the heart its undertow. The shift into base happens slowly, sometime after the second hour. Oud arrives as a shadow rather than a statement, darkening the sandalwood rather than replacing it. Vanilla unfolds underneath, and patchouli grounds the whole composition with a dry, earthy warmth. Musk smooths the edges.
Cultural impact
Eximus appeals to wearers who want the warmth and depth of a traditional oriental without the heaviness or projection that louder compositions deliver. The narrative prompt gives Eximus an unusual emotional anchor: it's designed to be associated with a personal moment of achievement, which positions it as a fragrance with a feeling attached before the first spray. There's a softness to the composition that supports that intent, a smooth resin-and-spice opening that settles into something quieter and more reflective within the first hour.
