The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
House of Marsté, founded in 2024, approached Michael Nordstrand with a specific brief: capture the languid energy of a Montmartre afternoon in liquid form. Nordstrand chose to begin with cardamom, grapefruit, and juniper berry, a triad that immediately signals brightness and spice without relying on the expected citrus standards.
Nordstrand selected each note for deliberate contrast. The sharp, aromatic opening exists to be softened by the florals that follow. Star jasmine provides a nighttime floral quality that pairs differently with pear than it might with sweeter companions. The cedarwood and honey pairing grounds the composition in warmth, ensuring the drydown reads as natural continuity rather than abrupt shift.
The evolution
The opening erupts with grapefruit clarity and cardamom warmth, juniper berry lending an austere backbone. At the midpoint, orange blossom and star jasmine emerge alongside pear, their sweet-floral character softened by the fruit's green presence. As time passes, cedarwood introduces dry structure while honey tempers with amber warmth, musk eventually settling into a close, intimate trails.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 debut, Montmartre Midi has become a reference point for fragrance lovers seeking a modern Parisian vibe. Critics highlighted its balanced citrus-spice opening and elegant floral heart, noting it stands out among the house’s inaugural trio. Wearers often describe it as the scent of a quiet café terrace, cementing its place in the seasonal rotation of spring-summer niche picks.
