The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Very Pine began as a question: what happens when you take a familiar forest note and make it unexpected? Le Monde Gourmand started with evergreen, pine, fir, balsam, as the recognizable anchor, then asked what would happen if the sweetness didn't stay in the background. Caramel and rum arrived first, then the florals to soften the edges. The result is a fragrance that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, like walking into a lodge that's also a confectionery.
The fougère structure is what makes it work. Fougère traditionally means a fern-like arrangement, herbal, aromatic, woody, but Le Monde Gourmand pushed it toward the gourmand side by letting the caramel and rum sit in the opening without apology. The nutmeg adds a warm spice that bridges the sweetness to the conifer heart. It's the kind of layering that rewards attention: every time you think you've identified it, something else surfaces.
The evolution
The opening is rum and caramel, sticky-sweet, boozy, the kind of sweetness that announces itself. Grapefruit keeps it from getting too heavy. Nutmeg adds warmth without fire. This phase lasts about thirty minutes. Then the evergreen arrives. Not aggressively, more like a cold draft through an open door. The davana and neroli bloom in the heart, the red rose adding quiet warmth beneath the canopy. This is where the fragrance finds its character. It lasts a couple of hours. The drydown is balsam fir and sandalwood together, warm, creamy wood that softens the pine edges. Oakmoss is the quiet anchor that pulls everything back to the forest floor. It's intimate. Close. The kind of scent you notice after someone's already left the room.
Cultural impact
Very Pine occupies an interesting space in the Le Monde Gourmand catalog, it's the one that takes the brand's edible sensibility and pushes it toward something more aromatic and unexpected. The evergreen and caramel pairing is unusual enough to generate conversation, which is part of the brand's broader appeal: approachable luxury without the cold performance of sophistication.
