The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
My Day by La Perla exists because some moments deserve to be worn. La Perla has dressed women for themselves since 1954, private luxury, not spectacle. My Day translates that philosophy into a fragrance meant to be lived, not displayed. The concept: a daily signature that moves from the subtle opening through warm floral and iris heart to a woody base that echoes the feeling of fabric closest to the skin.
Dominique Preyssas built My Day's architecture deliberately. The warm, spicy carrot seed grounds the citrus opening, preventing it from becoming just another bergamot-neroli blend. The heart layers jasmine with orris, two materials that require precision to balance, because individually each can overwhelm. The result is refined without being precious. The base leans into cashmere wood and sandalwood rather than the expected musk, creating that close-to-skin impression the brand wanted, as if the scent is part of you, not layered on top.
The evolution
My Day opens with a bright citrus and pink pepper burst that feels almost playful, the carrot seed adds warmth underneath, keeping it from being frivolous. Within the first hour the florals take over: jasmine and tuberose arrive with creamy intensity, and the orris root surfaces as the true heart, lending that powdery elegance the fragrance is built around. The transition surprises because it happens gradually, not suddenly. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name: sandalwood and vetiver settle close to the skin, iris and cashmere wood providing softness rather than projection. By hour five or six, it's barely detectable unless someone leans in, which is exactly the point. The next day, faint traces of sandalwood and vanilla tonka bean remain on clothing.
Cultural impact
My Day occupies a specific niche within La Perla's fragrance portfolio, designed for women who find power in personal accomplishment rather than public declaration. The powdery iris character has drawn comparisons to niche iris fragrances at a fraction of the cost, though the warm sandalwood and vetiver drydown distinguishes it as more approachable. Worn by those who appreciate refined elegance without announcing it.
