The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In Rosa is La Perla's evolved take on its signature rose. The 2014 Eau de Parfum arrived as a deeper, warmer companion to the existing Eau de Toilette, same rose-forward spirit, but with more substance. Where the EDT read light and airy, this version layers fruity red berries against a richer floral heart and a gourmand base. The intent was a fragrance for women who want the femininity of rose without sacrificing depth or presence. The name Rosa references both the flower and its Italian heritage. The composition opens with bright red currant, its tart berry notes cutting through the air before giving way to the main event, a velvety Turkish rose that forms the core of the scent.
What makes this composition interesting is how the praline and Indonesian patchouli reframe the rose entirely. Turkish rose is not a shy material in perfumery, it can read matronly or medicinal depending on its companions. Here, La Perla paired it with praline and vanilla, swinging the rose toward the gourmand register while patchouli adds the earthy counterweight that keeps it from becoming saccharine. The orris root deserves attention too. It's technically a heart note but its effect is structural, iris carries a powdery, almost violet-like softness that bridges the juicy fruit top and the sweet base. Without it, the fragrance would feel more disjointed.
The evolution
Red currant hits first. Tart, almost electric against the skin, with mandarin orange giving it a warm citrus edge. This opening phase is brief but distinctive, making a clear statement before transitioning. The berries recede. Turkish rose climbs. The orange blossom opens, giving the heart a slightly waxy, white-flower quality. Iris softens everything, turning what could be a straightforward floral into something with texture and nuance. Praline arrives quietly. Vanilla follows. Indonesian patchouli anchors the base with an earthy warmth that keeps the sweetness from cloying. The drydown is not loud, but it has real presence, lingering close to the skin for hours. The praline and patchouli combination creates a warm, enveloping finish that stays with you throughout the day.
Cultural impact
La Perla In Rosa launched in 2014 as an updated companion to the existing Eau de Toilette. The fragrance combines red berries, Turkish rose, and gourmand praline elements to create a sweet, romantic scent with depth. The red berries provide a bright, fruity opening that contrasts beautifully with the velvety Turkish rose at the heart. As the fragrance develops, the praline notes emerge, adding warmth and sophistication to the composition. Community reception shows it remains popular among those who appreciate powdery florals with modern gourmand depth.
