Why it exists.
The beginning
Ghaliya Alhambra is a spray composition from Kinana, reaching for an Andalusian register. The composition is built around smoke, resin, and rose absolute, anchored by vintage oud and Mysore sandalwood in the base. Released in 2026 as the house's take on that Andalusi register, it draws on imagery of incense-heavy ceremonial rooms and gardens where rose and citrus grew together. The opening carries a bright, almost ecclesiastical lift from frankincense, where the resin's bright citrus-pine facets slice through whatever density waits behind them. Persian saffron threads through that incense haze, dry and leathery rather than sweet, lending a metallic warmth that reads almost mineral against skin.
The note structure is doing something specific here. Frankincense and Persian saffron open the door, incense and myrrh run the middle, and the base commits to vintage oud, Mysore sandalwood, ambergris, and a Kashmiri musk accord. Labdanum ties the heart to the base, a sticky resin that bridges rose absolute into the smoke without losing either. This is not a modernized oud composition. It reads as a study in traditional Middle Eastern perfumery translated into spray form, where every material earns its weight.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to the saffron and bergamot, bright and slightly bitter, with frankincense already threading underneath like a draft under a door. Within thirty minutes, the incense takes over and the smoke deepens, pulling labdanum and myrrh into a thick resinous heart where rose absolute sits like a bruise of color, not a floral statement. Two hours in, the saffron has long since dissolved into the composition. What remains is the drydown's slow architecture: oud and Mysore sandalwood carrying ambergris and benzoin into something that reads almost like worn wood in a room that still holds smoke. The Kashmiri musk accord settles close to skin around hour four. By hour five or six, the fragrance has gone quiet, but it has not left. The next morning, a faint trace of oud and ambergris still clings to the fabric of whatever you wore the day before.
