The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Audition draws its name from the real-life experience Kelly Brook knows well, that moment of stepping into a room and presenting yourself, nerves sparking beneath a polished exterior. Launched in 2014 as the brand's third fragrance, it arrived six years after Vivacious positioned the Kelly Brook name in UK department stores. Where the earlier scent leaned fresh and light, Audition was built for something more assured, a fragrance that could carry the weight of a different kind of confidence. Brook consulted with perfumers to shape a composition that captured that pre-audition feeling: bright, composed, ready.
What makes Audition work is the transition, the way the cool, crisp top notes hand off to something warmer and more intimate in the drydown. The powdery florals at the heart give it a signature quality, while the vanilla and musk base keeps it close to the skin rather than projecting outward. It's not trying to fill a room. It's the fragrance you wear when you want to be remembered after you've left.
The evolution
Audition opens bright and cool, honeydew melon and bergamot arrive first, with java apple adding a crisp, watery freshness that reads almost like biting into a ripe apple. This top phase holds for roughly the first hour, clean and confident, the kind of opening that announces presence without demanding attention. The handoff to the heart is gradual. Wisteria blooms into the composition, powdery and soft, followed by heliotrope and iris adding depth and a subtle sweetness. Patchouli anchors the florals here, preventing anything too delicate by introducing an earthy, grounding element. This middle phase is where Audition earns its maturity, the floral heart is sophisticated, not frivolous. The drydown is where the real story lives. Vanilla emerges, warm and creamy, followed by musk and benzoin creating a soft, intimate close. Amber binds everything, adding a faint resinous quality that lingers on the skin for hours. The final hours smell like skin, not perfume, close, warm, discovered rather than announced.
Cultural impact
Audition occupies a specific space in the celebrity fragrance landscape: accessible without being generic, confident without being aggressive. It appeals to women who want a fragrance that works without performing. The brand's modest UK presence, steady but not ubiquitous, gives it an approachable quality that more aggressively marketed celebrity scents lack.
