Why it exists.
The beginning
Abbraccio arrives in 2026 as part of Illunee's Strappi collection, a line that centers on tactile, weighted compositions. Created in collaboration with perfumer Linea Daria, the name borrows from the Italian word for embrace, and the fragrance behaves like a held thing: something pulled close, wrapped around the wearer rather than sprayed at arm's length. The composition leans into spice and resin for a density that goes beyond what you'd expect from a woody-spicy release, and the interplay between brightness and shadow runs through every stage. Black pepper and pink pepper open with contrasting temperatures, one dry and woody, the other lifted and almost berry-bright. Beneath them, elemi adds a lemony balsamic flicker that keeps the opening alive.
What makes this composition worth attention is the layering of two pepper varieties right at the top, and each one does distinct work. Black pepper brings dry, woody heat, a crackle that hits the nostrils before the fragrance warms on skin. Pink pepper works differently, adding a brighter, almost berry-edged sparkle that lifts the opening into something more luminous. Between them sits elemi resin, contributing a lemony, balsamic brightness that prevents the spices from collapsing into a single hot note.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are sharp. Black pepper and elemi resin arrive almost simultaneously, creating a bright, peppery brightness that feels almost fizzy on skin. Pink pepper softens the edges, adding a subtle fruity warmth that keeps the opening from feeling aggressive. Incense threads through quietly, not dominating but present, like distant smoke. By the forty-minute mark, the composition transitions into its heart. Labdanum and amber notes take over, and the sharpness of the pepper begins to recede. Vanilla appears here, but it's a dry vanilla, not a gourmand one, more like the inside of a vanilla pod than cake batter. Amyris adds a creamy, woody smoothness that bridges the heart and base. After two hours, the base fully emerges. Cashmere wood and cedarwood create a soft, woody blanket, while cypriol introduces its earthy, rooty depth. Tobacco arrives last and lingers longest, dry and slightly sweet, with a faintly leathery quality. The drydown settles into a warm, contemplative space that stays close to skin for hours.
