Why it exists.
The beginning
Iris Doux Special Edition is Eliam Puente's revisit of one of his favorite materials, orris root. Released through House of Puente's Blue Label Collection, it draws directly from the iris-centric core of the original Iris Doux and treats that flower as the compositional anchor. Orris has long been one of his favorite fragrant notes, and the Special Edition reads like a private conversation between the perfumer and that single material, with everything else arranged to flatter it. The composition leans into the depth and density of orris rather than its more conventional powdery register, giving the root room to speak in its own voice. Supporting notes step back, providing structure and warmth without competing for attention.
What makes this composition worth lingering over is the tension between cool and warm. The top quartet of bergamot, Comorian ylang-ylang, mandarin, and mimosa creates a bright, almost champagne-like lift. Then the heart introduces lavender and geranium to keep the iris from going too sweet. The base layer is where things get interesting: Thai oud alongside vanilla absolute, tonka, amber, and musk. That foundation adds a gravitational pull beneath the florals, anchoring the bright opening and cool heart into something with genuine weight.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to citrus. Bergamot and mandarin cut in sharp, and the ylang-ylang adds a green-yellow sweetness that reads tropical before it reads floral. Mimosa arrives next, giving the opening a powdery, almost almond-soft edge. By the thirty-minute mark, the heart has settled. Lavender cools the composition, and orris root takes over with that distinctive suede, carrot-seed, slightly metallic iris character. Geranium adds a green herbal note that keeps the florals from collapsing into sweetness. The drydown brings the oud forward in its own time, dark wood grain rather than animalic smoke, settling underneath rather than taking over. Vanilla absolute rounds the edges, tonka bean adds a nutty warmth, amber gives it that golden resin glow, and musk keeps everything close to skin. The iris never fully disappears; it just moves from centerpiece to ghost.

Iris Doux Special Edition sits in a small but deliberate category: the iris fragrance that refuses to stay polite. It layers oud, vanilla, and amber underneath the orris, creating something that reads as iris with a backbone. Wearers tend to be people who appreciate the powdery sophistication of orris but want more projection and presence than a purely delicate iris composition typically delivers.
