Why it exists.
The beginning
Released in 2017, Black Perfecto La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum Florale arrived as Thierry Wasser's darker, edgier reinterpretation of the original La Petite Robe Noire gourmand DNA. The composition takes its name from the black perfecto jacket, a piece long associated with Parisian style, and was designed to capture something stitched inside that jacket. The rose and sweetness of the original are wrapped tightly against structure so neither element overpowers the other. What emerges is a fragrance that reads as both feminine and slightly defiant, a perfume that doesn't ask permission to be both soft and tough in the same breath.
What makes this composition unusual is how Wasser treats black leather. It's not a smoky, masculine gesture pulled from a heritage cologne, but something softer and more approachable in the base. The almond sweetness from the heart rests on the leather without sliding into pure confection, which keeps the whole thing wearable rather than theatrical. May rose absolute from Grasse provides the floral's old-world weight, while tonka bean bridges rose to leather with a warmth that reads as skin rather than as pastry.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to rose water, a soft, almost marzipan-laced sweetness that smells like it could belong to a lighter, friendlier fragrance. Don't get comfortable. The leather starts asserting itself as the composition dries down, and the tonka bean thickens what was airy into something denser and warmer. Eventually the gourmand softness gives way to a dry, slightly powdery leather-rose that clings close to skin. The almond lingers as a whisper beneath everything, lending a faint nuttiness to the leather's smoky edges. On a sweater the next morning you'll find a faint almond sweetness still present, with the rose having softened into something almost powdery against the fabric's weave.
