The Story
Why it exists.
Tonka by Granado arrived in 2019 from perfumer Leonardo Lucheze. The Brazilian tonka bean carries a natural sweetness most perfumes hint at without ever delivering, coumarin-rich, almondy, balsamic. Coconut appears twice in the pyramid, bridging top and heart. Coconut milk opens the composition with soft, creamy presence, lending an edible quality that feels familiar without being commonplace. The tonka bean, positioned in the heart, emerges with its characteristic warm, nutty depth, balanced by a subtle balsamic undertone that adds richness without heaviness. Amberwood in the base provides a woody, slightly sweet backdrop that supports the tonka. Vanilla appears in the base, adding gentle sweetness and extending the overall composition.

The Beginning
The coconut milk note opens with soft creaminess, inviting the tonka bean forward in the composition. The tonka bean's characteristic warmth and subtle balsamic quality create a natural bridge between the opening and the deeper base notes. The amberwood provides a quiet woody warmth beneath the other elements, while the vanilla adds a gentle sweetness that extends the tonka's presence. The composition moves from coconut through tonka into a lingering drydown that feels cohesive rather than abrupt.
The Evolution
Coconut milk opens the composition with a soft, creamy quality. A faint fig note appears briefly before dissolving, allowing the coconut to establish the initial experience. The tonka bean then takes center stage, bringing its characteristic warm, nutty quality and natural coumarin-rich sweetness with a subtle balsamic undertone. The amberwood in the base provides a quiet woodiness that grounds the blend without adding weight. The vanilla appears in the base, adding warmth and resinous depth that extends the overall experience. The composition flows from coconut creaminess through tonka warmth into a lingering, quietly sweet finish that stays close rather than projecting outward.
Cultural Impact
Tonka presents a coconut milk note that avoids typical beach associations, instead offering a warm, grounded character. The tonka bean carries natural sweetness, rich in coumarin with almondy and balsamic qualities that bring depth rather than superficial tropical framing. The combination creates something that feels rooted and substantive within the gourmand space, moving beyond lighter coconut interpretations into a composition built around the tonka bean's characteristic warmth. The overall effect emphasizes quiet depth and natural sweetness over projection.

This fragrance sounds like a late afternoon in a warm kitchen, the smell of something sweet baking, the window cracked open. Soft, unhurried, domestic in the best sense. The coconut opens like a warm exhale, and the tonka arrives as a low hum underneath, present but never demanding. It doesn't build toward anything, it just settles.
