The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Very Irresistible Collector Edition arrived in 2013 to mark ten years of the original Very Irresistible. Givenchy built the anniversary around a single, audacious premise: what if a fragrance contained not one rose, not two, but ten? Bulgarian Centifolia, Moroccan Damask, Turkish Damask, Moroccan Centifolia, Pink Rose, Red Rose, plus rose hip, pink peony, fuchsia, and a whisper of anise to hold it all together. The bottle received ten roses etched into the glass. The box read "Happy 10 years!" The collection used the most romantic material in perfumery as the medium, layering multiple rose varieties into a single composition that could stand as a testament to the original's legacy.
Ten roses in a single fragrance is not an accident of sourcing, it's a statement about what rose can do when it stops apologizing for itself. Bulgarian Centifolia brings the honey. Moroccan Damask brings the spice. Turkish Damask brings the velvet. Pink and Red Roses add the freshness. Rose Hip, the seed pod, not the petal, brings the green-fruity element that keeps the whole thing from collapsing into potpourri. The anise appears as a slight coolness at the heart that shapes how the sweetness is perceived.
The evolution
The opening is green-fruity from rose hip and anise, with Bulgarian Centifolia already present. The rose varieties begin their slow merger, with Moroccan Damask's spice opening first, then Turkish Rose's petals softening everything. The transition from opening to heart occurs as anise recedes and peony-fuchsia take over. The heart is where this fragrance earns its reputation, a dense, rose cloud that reads as singular even though your nose can identify the individual varieties if you focus. The drydown arrives when the roses thin and musk-rosehip takes over, settling into something warm and close to the skin. On fabric, it can linger as a faint sweetness that persists, a reminder of the fragrance rather than the fragrance itself. The progression moves from bright and layered to soft and intimate, the ten roses gradually resolving into a unified impression.
Cultural impact
Very Irresistible Collector Edition doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, it tries to perfect it. The rose-floral-musky composition is built around an abundance of rose that gives the fragrance its character. The anise gives it a slight edge that saves it from being merely sweet, but this is a fragrance built around the richness of multiple rose varieties working in concert. The ten-rose structure creates a complexity that rewards attention, the varieties layering and blending in ways that reveal themselves over time.
