The Story
Why it exists.
Ex Nihilo gives perfumers a single directive: create what you've always dreamed of, not what convention demands. Antoine Maisondieu took that seriously. His assignment: Australian Sandalwood Album, a material with an almost mystical energy in perfumery. His idea was to bring in contemporary Parisian sensibility, find the brightness in what is usually heavy, the creaminess in what is usually woody and grumbling. The result is Santal Calling. A fragrance named after an action, the act of being summoned, pulled toward something irresistible. The idea of a spell, an unstoppable pull, translated into scent.

The Beginning
Sandalwood in perfumery carries baggage. Heavy, resinous, sometimes grumbling, it cloys. Makes a room feel small. It dominates, and not always in a good way. Santal Calling takes the same material and reimagines it entirely. Here, sandalwood is bathed in creamy milk and vanilla bourbon from Madagascar before it ever reaches the skin. The result is a sandalwood that radiates rather than crowds. Bright, not burdensome. Nutmeg opens the pyramid, warm spice, a 30-minute announcement that something is happening, but the heart immediately smooths it into the signature creamy-soft structure. This is a sandalwood built for people who appreciate the note but want to wear it, not fight it.
The Evolution
Santal Calling opens with a brief nutmeg burst, warm spice, aromatic, present in the room but not overstaying. About 30 minutes before the sandalwood and cream take over. Then the heart arrives: iris and milk. The milk is what people talk about, creamy, smooth, the texture that defines this fragrance's identity. Not the sandalwood of old. Deeper into wear, sandalwood and vanilla own the drydown, the vanilla giving warmth not sweetness. On skin, the sillage stays close, intimate, not projecting into the room. Musk holds it there. Performance is solid; this fragrance lasts most of the day on most people.
Cultural Impact
Community response to Santal Calling is consistent and revealing. The overwhelming majority describe it as creamy and soft, beautiful sandalwood, and smooth without harsh edges. Enthusiasts have embraced the fragrance with a loyal following, appreciating its approachability. Community perception positions this as the sandalwood for people who think sandalwood is too much, reframing the material entirely rather than complicating it. The reception points to a specific kind of wearer: someone who appreciates the note's warmth but wants to live with it daily, without the weight. For that person, Santal Calling is a quiet revelation.

Warm afternoon light through a window. The kind of day that doesn't need to announce itself, it simply arrives and stays. Warm sandalwood milk, vanilla in the air, nothing sharp intruding. The feeling of a room where someone just was, even after they've left.
