Happiness is the third entry in Eternal Journey's H series, the chapter in which the brand turns its attention to joy as a state of being rather than a flavor. The composition was developed by Pierre Ravan with DSM-Firmenich, working from a brief that treats happiness not as sweetness but as a quality of consciousness, something that emanates from within and radiates outward. The 2024 release takes that idea literally, presenting an olfactive breath that carries both a delicate saline shimmer and the grounded warmth that follows. Ravan has approached scent through the lens of an Inner Journey, a concept the brand uses to thread its releases into a larger arc rather than letting them exist as standalone objects.
What makes this composition unusual is the pairing of cypriol and aquatic notes at the opening. Cypriol, also called nagarmotha, brings an earthy, almost smoky root quality that most aquatic compositions deliberately avoid. Layering it with marine accords creates immediate tension: the airiness pulls upward while the root pulls downward, and the two seem to negotiate with each other across the first minutes of wear. The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to the air. Apple arrives with a clean, almost crunchy sweetness, and the aquatic notes give it a saline lift, like biting into fruit after swimming. Saffron threads through the brightness, adding a leathery warmth without weight. Cypriol sits underneath, smoky and earthen, preventing the opening from ever feeling purely fresh. There's a mineral edge here that recalls stone warmed by sun. The praline enters around the forty-minute mark, and the composition shifts register. What was crisp becomes rounded, what was bright becomes golden. Davana adds a fermented, slightly boozy sweetness, almost like dessert wine spilled on warm wood. Oakmoss weaves through the praline, giving the heart a forest-floor depth that keeps the sweetness from cloying. Rose appears subtly, more as a suggestion than a statement, lifting the composition without turning it floral. By the three-hour mark, the Ambroxan and Javanol have taken full command.
