The beginning
The name says it plainly: Afghanissimo. Ensar Oud built this around two of the most prized rose distillations on earth: Afghan rose otto and Persian rose otto, with Taif rose and white rose completing the heart. It's a statement of origin first, composition second. The 2025 release arrived as part of the EO Privée collection, a limited offering that places each bottle within a curated tier of the house's most focused work. There's no gentle entry ramp here. The opening is sharp citrus, almost cutting, a deliberate wake-up call before the floral heart unfolds. That citrus flash is not accidental. It's the doorway, and the fragrance makes no apologies for making you walk through it before offering what it actually came to say.
Most rose fragrances settle for one type of rose, or worse, a reconstructed accord built to mimic the real thing. Afghanissimo goes the other direction. Afghan rose otto and Persian rose otto form the foundation, with Taif rose in the heart and white rose softening the architecture. And then the base: Sri Lankan, Cambodian, Malayan, and Thai oud alongside costus and ambergris, a lineup that spans multiple agarwood regions in a single bottle. The pairing matters because rose without oud is perfume. Rose with this much oud operates in different territory. The composition doesn't hide its weight.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are deceptively polite. Green mandarin, neroli, and yuzu flash bright and clean, with cardamom threading underneath. Then the citrus peels back like a curtain and the roses arrive, all four of them, arriving not as a single note but as a conversation. About an hour in, the oud foundation surfaces. Sri Lankan, Cambodian, Malayan, and Thai oud all make their presence known, each contributing to the resinous weight that settles into the composition. Costus joins quietly, a rooty hum beneath it all. The ambergris keeps everything luminous, never letting it go dark or heavy. As the hours pass, the composition shifts from bright florals into something deeper and more resinous. The roses don't vanish; they fold into the base, becoming part of the wood and root rather than standing above it.
