The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
New York by Emir arrived in 2024 as the flagship of the Cosmopolitan collection, a tribute to the city that never sleeps and the restless energy of its streets steel and raw market authenticity, finished with earthy depth. The house wanted a scent that captured this duality, something that felt both polished and untamed.
The note pairing reflects deliberate restraint. Opening notes establish immediate presence without overwhelming the wearer. Heart notes transition from the initial spice toward green-floral complexity, providing narrative movement. The amber-woody base delivers lasting impact and skin presence. Each phase serves a purpose in building the fragrance's arc. Coriander bridges the aromatic and green aspects; cumin adds the signature edge; birch and labdanum ground the middle; cedarwood and oakmoss anchor the finale.
The evolution
The opening unfolds across the skin with coriander and cumin first, their green-spicy character sharpened by petitgrain's citrus bitterness. Lavender's presence remains subtle, more background herb than dominant note. As the scent develops, geranium's bright-green crispness and jasmine's floral sweetness emerge around birch wood's dry texture, while labdanum adds a resinous amber backbone that prevents the heart from feeling purely green. The drydown reveals its true character as amber warmth meets cedarwood's lasting presence, with oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver creating an earthy wood Moss drydown that persists for hours.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 debut, New York has sparked conversation among unisex fragrance fans for its bold spice‑herb opening and smoky‑woody heart. Wearers often note its ability to stand out in crowded urban settings, and it’s frequently compared to Tauer’s L’Air du Désert Marocain for its desert‑meets‑city vibe.
