The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
2021 brought 2 Wood into the DSQUARED² catalogue as the gender-neutral edition of the Wood collection. The concept arrived fully formed: born in Canada, designed in London, made in Italy, a fragrance that refuses geography. Olivier Cresp built the composition around a triple-wood heart that the brand has become known for, layering silver fir, Haitian vetiver, and Nootka cypress into something with surprising depth and complexity. Silver fir contributes a clean, almost aromatic quality that opens the composition with clarity. Haitian vetiver brings its characteristic earthy, slightly smoky root character, grounding the brighter elements. Nootka cypress adds resinous, almost tar-like depth that anchors the blend and prevents it from feeling ephemeral.
Three woods in the heart is the structural decision that makes 2 Wood worth talking about. Most fragrances lean on one woody note as a base layer. This stacks silver fir, Haitian vetiver, and Nootka cypress, three coniferous materials with different densities and textures. Silver fir reads as clean and almost aromatic. Haitian vetiver brings the earthy, slightly smoky root character. Nootka cypress adds a resinous, almost tar-like depth. Together they create a woody heart with real presence, the kind of construction that gives the fragrance its backbone.
The evolution
The opening arrives sharp and immediate, Primofiore lemon and citron cutting through with the kind of clarity that reads as almost fizzy. Pink pepper adds a slight prickliness, a whisper of spice that prevents it from being just another citrus. As the top notes soften, the triple-wood heart gradually asserts itself. Silver fir arrives with a clean, almost airy quality that keeps the transition from feeling abrupt. Haitian vetiver follows, bringing its earthy, grounding character into the foreground. Nootka cypress lingers beneath, adding resinous depth that prevents the whole thing from smelling like an air freshener. The base arrives quietly, musk and vegetal amber wrapping around the woods without burying them. Vulcanolide, a synthetic musk, extends the wear, keeping the skin smelling clean and woody long after the citrus has receded.
Cultural impact
2 Wood arrived in 2021 as the gender-neutral entry in the DSQUARED² Wood collection. The positioning of born in Canada, designed in London, made in Italy speaks to a fragrance built for multiple contexts and perspectives. Olivier Cresp brings a structural clarity to the composition that prevents it from becoming another generic woody. The triple-wood heart represents a deliberate choice to build complexity through layering rather than relying on a single dominant material.
