The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Golden Delicious takes its name from one of the world's most beloved apple varieties, a cultivar that inspired DKNY's Be Delicious line. The original green apple bottle became a signature of the collection, its apple obsession making the line distinctive. Golden Delicious was released in 2010 as part of the Be Delicious family, bringing a new interpretation to the collection. The advertising face was model Lara Stone, whose striking presence brought a cool confidence to the campaign. The fragrance offers a softer, warmer, and more floral character compared to other expressions in the line, maintaining the apple obsession while introducing a different sensory direction. The name references the actual variety, with all the warmth and crispness that implies.
The white floral heart is where Golden Delicious diverges most noticeably from its green sibling. Lily of the valley brings a cool, green-floral quality that tempers sweetness without adding sharpness. White rose contributes a soft, powdery elegance. Vanilla orchid, distinct from plain vanilla, adds a creamy, slightly exotic warmth that bridges the heart to the woody base. This combination of cool florals (lily of the valley) and warm florals (vanilla orchid, white rose) creates an interesting tension. The fragrance doesn't commit fully to either register. It's neither purely fresh nor purely warm.
The evolution
The opening is immediate and bright, red apple cuts crisp and clean, while mirabelle plum adds a stone-fruit sweetness that feels almost edible. African orange flower arrives next, bringing a waxy-floral quality that keeps the sweetness from becoming candy-like. This phase lasts perhaps fifteen minutes before the florals begin their slow takeover. By the thirty-minute mark, lily of the valley takes the lead, its cool green-floral character softening the fruit's edges. White rose and vanilla orchid layer underneath, adding creaminess and warmth. The transition is not dramatic, it is a gradual warming, like a room filling with afternoon light. The apple does not disappear, it recedes, becoming a memory rather than a statement. The drydown is where sandalwood and musk do their work.
Cultural impact
Golden Delicious joined the Be Delicious line, bringing a warmer, more floral character that broadened the line's appeal. The line's apple-shaped bottle has been a recognizable element of DKNY's visual identity. Lara Stone appeared in the campaign, bringing her distinctive look to the advertising.
