Cèdre Précieux arrived in 2008 as part of Darphin's small, considered fragrance collection. The name itself does the work: precious cedar. The composition treats that wood not as backdrop but as lead, centering Virginia cedar and sandalwood around a core of warm spice. Caraway, cardamom, cinnamon. These notes carry a sharpness and aromatic weight that feels deliberate, each one asserting itself rather than blending into the wood. Ebony wood deepens the base, lending a darker, almost mineral resonance to the drydown. Rose threads through like breath, present enough to soften the sharper edges but never loud enough to claim the composition as floral.
What makes the structure worth noting is the friction between materials. Caraway and cardamom meet Virginia cedar and sandalwood, and the combination creates a savory-spicy register that feels grounded and immediate.
