The collection it belongs to is called Alchemist's Dungeon, and the name itself tells you everything about the intent. The concept draws from the idea of a flying salve, a preparation mentioned in connection with spirit travel, meditation, and sacred space sanctification. Dark Tales translates these concepts into something wearable, treating each release as a small narrative pressed into wax. The brief here was to take that ritual framework and render it as a solid perfume, a format that already slows the wearer down, demanding finger-to-skin contact rather than the casual sweep of a spray.
What makes this composition interesting is the refusal to soften the materials. Wormwood anchors the whole structure rather than appearing as a passing accent, and its bitter green character defines the opening in a way most perfumers would avoid. Franzén leans into that bitterness, then layers frankincense and myrrh in a resin wall that dominates the heart of the fragrance. Black spruce brings the green coniferous sharpness that keeps the drydown from collapsing into pure incense, a bright slash of pine that cuts through the sweetness of the resins before they fully settle.
