Why it exists.
The beginning
Cèdre Blanc arrived in 2014 as part of Creed's Acqua Originale collection. The perfumer, Julien Rasquinet, had a particular kind of brief to answer: how do you make cedarwood feel approachable? Most cedar-led scents lean heavy, smoky, or pencil-sharp. Cèdre Blanc goes the other direction. It treats the wood as a clean surface, then layers fresh and green over it. Bergamot and galbanum bring the brightness, two ingredients that open the composition with a lifted, almost translucent quality. Bay leaf and cardamom add that aromatic edge, lending a savory herbal character that pushes the scent away from the usual cedarwood templates. There's something remarkably airy in the way these top notes behave, almost like polished stone, cold tile, the scent of something freshly groomed.
Galbanum sits in the opening like a supporting note, letting bergamot take center while adding herbal lift. Its sharpness reads here as green and slightly bitter, the kind of edge that recalls crushed leaves rather than anything synthetic. The jasmine in the heart is similarly restrained, present but never indolic. It threads through the composition quietly, more of a clean impression than a heavy floral statement, and it never threatens to tip the scent toward sweetness. Then the base: cedarwood, vetiver, sandalwood.
The evolution
The opening moves fast. First ten minutes and you're in galbanum territory, sharp, green, almost biting, with bergamot pulling it toward something citrus-fresh. The bay leaf lurks underneath, adding a savory herbal undertone that most fresh fragrances skip. Cardamom warms it just enough so the opening doesn't read cold. By the 30-minute mark, the green softens. Water lily and geranium ease in, and the jasmine arrives without ever announcing itself. This is the cleanest phase, the floral heart doing very little, but what little it does stays weightless. The water lily adds a cool, almost aqueous hush while geranium contributes a faint rosy-green tint that keeps the composition from drifting too far into pure aquatic territory. Then the base arrives around the 2-hour mark, and this is where Cèdre Blanc finds its identity. The cedarwood takes the lead, dry and aromatic rather than smoky.

Cèdre Blanc occupies a quieter corner of Creed's lineup, and that relative discretion has shaped how the fragrance is received by those who encounter it. As a release within the Acqua Originale collection, it carries the collection's emphasis on transparency and water-inspired lightness, but it does so through a woody lens rather than a purely aquatic one. This positioning gives it a distinct personality within the broader house catalogue, appealing to wearers drawn to clean compositions that still retain some weight and structure.
