The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Off Road arrived in 2015 as part of Clash's Sporty line, a collection that wears its attitude in plain sight. Jacques Huclier composed the juice, and the brand's copy frames it simply as no plans, no path, just the adrenaline of what's next. That sensibility runs through every layer of the scent, from the bright opening to the grounded drydown. The top notes bring a rush of cold citrus: bergamot, grapefruit, and green mandarin cut through with a sharp, almost herbal brightness that feels like stepping outside into fast-moving air. The heart opens up into jasmine and neroli, white florals that add warmth and a slight bitterness without tipping into sweetness. Tea pulls at the composition with a dry, tannic edge, while lily of the valley brings a green, dewy quality.
The composition is a citrus-aromatic built for open windows. The top trio of bergamot, grapefruit, and green mandarin delivers a sharp, almost cold-skinned brightness that catches the light. Jasmine and neroli keep things clean, a soapy quality that keeps the citrus from feeling raw, while lily of the valley brings a green, almost dewy character, and tea adds a tannic, slightly bitter edge that pulls the heart away from sweetness. Together the heart feels balanced, neither heavy nor overly delicate, a middle that holds its shape as the top notes fade.
The evolution
The first ten minutes hit with a burst of cold citrus, bergamot and grapefruit sharpened by green mandarin's almost herbal edge. It reads fast, loud, almost fizzy. Around the twenty-minute mark, the citrus softens and the floral heart arrives. Jasmine's warmth sits alongside neroli's cleaner, slightly bitter orange-flower tone, and tea grounds everything with a quiet, dry bitterness that keeps the composition from tipping into sweetness. Lily of the valley adds a dewy, green-floral impression that feels like air through an open window. By the two-hour mark, the base takes over. Oakmoss and vetiver bring damp earth and cut grass, the kind of green-dark notes you smell after rain on a country road. Sandalwood rounds the edges with a soft, creamy warmth, and musk keeps everything close to skin.
Cultural impact
Off Road belongs to Clash's Sporty sub-line, where citrus and green notes do most of the heavy lifting. The composition stays fresh without flattening out, and it never crosses into the gourmand or oriental territory that fills up so much of the sport fragrance space. The oakmoss and vetiver in the base give it a grounded, slightly damp character that lifts it above the typical clean-aquatic sport scent. There's enough citrus up top to keep it sharp through the first hour, and the oakmoss adds a depth that holds the composition together as the day goes on.
