The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Regina arrived in 2024 alongside several other Cage releases, including Gray Eagle, Orange Tuscans, and Purple Sunbird. Where those siblings leaned into landscape and wildlife, Regina turned its attention to something quieter: femininity rendered through fruit and white petals. The fragrance is structured as a portrait built around a peach-and-pear opening that sets the scene before jasmine, magnolia, orange blossom, and peony fill the canvas. It's a classical floral-fruity composition that values clarity over trend-chasing, and the restraint of the structure lets each note speak in turn without crowding the others. There's a stillness to the way Regina is built, the kind of composition that rewards close attention rather than demanding it.
What makes Regina worth attention is the tension between its two halves. Peach and pear are joyful, almost confectionary on their own, but layered over jasmine and magnolia they gain gravity. Patchouli in the base prevents the whole composition from dissolving into sugar, and its presence gives the fruit and florals something to lean against. The white-floral accord, built from jasmine, magnolia, orange blossom, and peony, is broad and forgiving, which means the fragrance wears close to skin rather than projecting aggressively.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the fruit. Peach arrives first, fleshy and sun-warmed, with pear threading in just behind, giving the opening a dewy quality that reads like biting into something cold and ripe. The florals don't crash in. They gather gradually, with jasmine eventually lifting the fruit into something less literal and more atmospheric. Magnolia and orange blossom add creaminess without weight, and peony rounds out the bouquet with a soft, almost paper-thin quality that bridges the fruit and the white florals. As the composition develops, the fruit fades and the white florals flatten into a softer, more soapy register, a transition that gives Regina its gentle, lived-in character. Patchouli begins its quiet work underneath, lending a faint earthiness that anchors the sweetness above.
Cultural impact
Regina by Cage arrived in 2024 sharing shelf space with Gray Eagle, Orange Tuscans, and Purple Sunbird, the siblings of a release cycle that covered a remarkably wide range of territory. Its peach-pear-white floral structure places it firmly in feminine territory, and the fragrance plays to a current appetite for restraint, offering a soft sillage bubble that draws close to the skin and a powdery soapy edge that recalls earlier eras of fruity-floral composition without quoting them directly. The fragrance continues an ethos of quiet launches, with each release presented as a self-contained piece rather than a marketing event.
