The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Brit Summer collection arrived in 2012 as a seasonal reimagining of the original Brit for Her from 2003 and Brit for Men from 2004. Rather than designing a fragrance from scratch, the Burberry team took the original Brit compositions and approached them with a fresh perspective. The result was a pair of flankers built around a specific feeling, an interpretation of the original scents that emphasizes lighter, more refreshing qualities for warmer months. For Brit Summer Women, the opening combines green tea, lime, and iced pear to create a crisp and refreshing introduction that distinguishes it from the richer original.
The sugared almond and peony heart is, arguably, the most interesting part of this composition. Sugared almond sounds simple, almost like a nuttiness you'd find in food rather than perfume, but here it functions as a bridge between the cool green-tea opening and the warm woody drydown. It's sweet in an edible way, but restrained enough not to tip into dessert territory. Peony adds a powdery floral layer that feels distinctly old-British-garden rather than modern-perfumery, a slightly vintage character that keeps the whole fragrance from feeling too contemporary. The green tea note is doing unusual work here.
The evolution
Brit Summer begins bright and cool, with green tea and iced pear creating a sensation that feels closer to cold air than perfume. The lime adds a sharp citrus note that quickly integrates into the overall composition as the green almond begins to emerge. That transition is where the fragrance earns its name: the character shifts from cooler and crisper to softer and warmer as the composition develops. The sugared almond and peony form the heart of the original Brit, and they take center stage in this flanker as the opening notes recede. Peony gives it a feminine, powdery quality; the almond adds a warmth that feels sweet and nutty. The fruitiness from the pear maintains a presence beneath the florals, keeping the composition from becoming too heavy as it develops.
Cultural impact
Brit Summer holds a distinct place within the Brit franchise, offering a lighter seasonal interpretation of the original composition. The fragrance presents a daytime character with softer florals and a fruity-green opening that works across a wide range of skin types. Community reception is generally warm, with the fragrance consistently described as pleasant, summery, and well-suited to daily wear. The approachable nature of this flanker makes it accessible to those new to the Brit line while offering existing fans a refreshing warm-weather alternative.
