The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Reprise arrived in 2025 as part of Brocard's Selective collection, a woody composition built on a deliberate pivot. The house has always worked between memory and place, and here that dialogue turns inward. Reprise stands as a woody fragrance in the Selective line, composed around a clear note structure: pear and mandarin in the top, orange blossom and georgywood in the heart, and a base of cedar, akigalawood, musk, and Ambrofix. The composition reads as a quiet reconsideration of the woody-citrus pairing, a structure the house has explored before but here pushed toward a more restrained register. There's nothing ornamental about the way the citrus opens or the way the woods settle in; the whole thing behaves as if it's been thought through twice.
What's interesting is the structural choice. Top and base share a kinship, bergamot and akigalawood both carry that clean, slightly metallic warmth, and the composition knows it. Akigalawood is a fractionated patchouli, stripped of its earthy muddiness and left with a woody, ambered clarity. Pairing it with Georgywood in the heart gives Reprise a modern woody spine without leaning on oud or the heavier ambers. It's a quiet technical decision that changes the whole shape of the scent.
The evolution
The opening is bright and almost edible, pear and mandarin settling into each other while ginger cuts through like a thin blade of clean heat. The bergamot sits just behind them, doing the structural work in the top notes. Then the orange blossom arrives without sweetness, almost sobersided, and it carries the composition into the heart. Georgywood and the orange blossom do the dueling work in the middle phase, the woody note pulling the floral into something drier, more mineral than it has any right to be. As the composition continues to develop, the musk wakes up and the base notes come into focus. Ambrofix takes over the projection in the later stages, that salty, skin-like amber character that makes everything around it feel warmer than it actually is. The cedar underneath is clean, almost pencil-shavings-deep, and the akigalawood gives the final hours a soft, rounded fade.
Cultural impact
Within Brocard's 2025 lineup, Reprise reads as a confident entry into the woody category, a composition that doesn't lean on heavy resins or dense orientals to make its point. The fragrance offers a clean, structured take on woody-musk territory, with cedar and akigalawood carrying the base alongside a warm musk presence. It wears close to the skin rather than projecting aggressively, making it a choice for someone who wants presence without announcement.
