The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Exotic Lemonade was composed by Patrice Martin for Brocard in 2018, built around a simple premise: what if a glass of lemonade drifted into tropical territory? The brief was deceptively straightforward, citrus refreshment that didn't stop at the first hour. What emerged instead became a study in contrast, where the bright and the warm aren't opposites but collaborators.
The heart of this fragrance is where the real conversation happens. Papaya and mint sit together in the middle registers, one tropical and almost overripe, the other green and cool. They don't follow the expected citrus-to-floral path. Instead, they build something that feels like the memory of a good vacation rather than the postcard itself. The praline and vanilla in the base do the work that separates this from a simple summer scent. They add weight without adding heaviness, warmth without losing the thread of freshness that opened the composition.
The evolution
The citrus opening reads immediately and clearly: citron, bergamot, and lime doing exactly what you'd expect. Within minutes, the tropical heart announces itself, papaya arriving before peach, mint threading through both to keep things from going too sweet. The praline doesn't wait for the drydown. It starts creeping in around the second hour, mixing with the citrus that hasn't fully left and the vanilla that's beginning to build. By the fourth hour, you're in the base. Praline and vanilla hold the composition together, with white musk keeping everything close to the skin. The scent remains intimate rather than projecting across a room, present when someone leans in, a quiet companion through the hours as the different layers settle and shift against the skin.
Cultural impact
Brocard's Exotic Lemonade captures a moment in fragrance culture where bright, playful compositions found their audience. The scent brings together two distinct character types that have long appealed to fragrance enthusiasts: the immediacy of a crisp, zesty opening and the comfort of a sweet, edible drydown. Citrus notes provide an instantly refreshing entrance, while the gourmand elements unfold as the fragrance settles, creating an approachable sweetness that feels like sensory comfort.
