The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Conquer didn't arrive to blend in. The name says it all, this is a fragrance built for presence, for the kind of person who walks into a room and already knows how it ends. Boadicea the Victorious has always drawn from the boldest chapters of British history, and Conquer takes that energy further. It launched in 2022 as a gender-neutral statement, joining a house known for refusing to soften its edges. The brief was clear: warmth without apology, depth without dilution. What emerged is a composition that hits hard from the first spray and refuses to fade into the background.
What makes Conquer unusual is the interplay between its opening and its heart. The spice upfront, saffron leading, coriander adding heat, creates an immediate impact that most fragrances spend minutes building toward. Then the coffee arrives. Not as a supporting note, but as a counterweight to the rose. Moroccan rose has a reputation for softness, but here it plays against dark roast and balsam fir, creating a heart that's both refined and insistent. The oud in the base isn't the medicinal, barnyard oud that alienates newcomers. This is cambodian oud, warmer, slightly sweet, with a resinous quality that makes the drydown feel intentional rather than accidental.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately and doesn't wait for permission. Saffron, ylang-ylang, coriander, a warm, aromatic burst that fills the space around you in the first minutes. The rhubarb adds a slight tartness, a green bite that keeps the warmth from becoming cloying. Within 30 minutes, the heart takes over. Coffee and Moroccan rose, intertwined with balsam fir and incense. The rose doesn't retreat, it holds its ground against the darker elements, creating a tension that defines the next few hours. Then the oud arrives. Cambodian oud, vetiver, and that lingering raspberry from the base notes. The drydown is smoky, warm, and stays close to the skin for hours. On clothes, it can outlast a weekend.
Cultural impact
Conquer joins a house known for fragrances that don't negotiate. Launched in 2022, it continues Boadicea the Victorious's tradition of bold, narrative-driven compositions. The combination of saffron, coffee, and cambodian oud is distinctive in the warm-spicy oriental category, commanding without veering into spectacle.
